Aberlour To Carron On The Speyside Way ... :)

29/6/2021

With my bread made and cooling (I don’t know how long it will survive with all my kiddos at home), my husband and I decided to pop out for a bit. We headed down to Aberlour, with our bikes for a lovely evening ride to Carron, along the Speyside Way.

It was so nice cycling through the trees and listening to the river, which runs alongside the track. As always the views were spectacular and the smell of freshly cut hay gently wafting on the breeze, was amazing. This route has been beautifully maintained and the paths are fantastic for hikers and bike riders alike … We even came across a few bike service stations along the way .

On arrival at Carron, we discovered another welcome and unexpected surprise.
The local community have turned their old telephone box into a lovely snack stop, complete with an honesty box for donations. With drinks, chocolate bars and cereal bars available, it was a wonderful treat, in a beautiful spot. A big thank you to the people of Carron, for such a wonderful idea, we really appreciated it …

Finally we headed home feeling relaxed and recharged, and as expected, to a quarter loaf of bread - it never lasts long in our house .
With a few more chores to complete, it was time to close up the greenhouse and take a few moments to enjoy the midnight sky …

I love this time of year and today was a really good day … :)

A Trip To Findhorn Beach ... :)

27/6/2021

We woke up early this morning and headed over to Findhorn Beach. Because of covid, it’s the first time we’ve been back in over a year and a half.
I was literally beyond excited, it’s one of my favourite places to visit and I’ve missed the sea so much. Luckily the weather was kind to us and the sun shone down, as we walked along the beach and through the village.
After our walk we stopped off at the ‘The Bakehouse Cafe’ and picked up some gorgeous spelt bread, olive focaccia and freshly baked quiche for lunch. So yummy and perfect for our picnic …
It was so nice to take the morning off and just relax … no stress, no worries and plenty of smiles.
Sending happy summer vibes from our homestead …

An Evening Stroll Above Tomintoul - Scotland :)

22/6/2021

We love the light summer evenings in the North of Scotland. Bike riding at 11pm or simply taking a stroll in the hills, when most others are tucked up safely in bed …
Those extra hours also come in handy, to complete our homestead projects that never seem to end …
Anyway, last night we headed over to Tomintoul, for a lovely wander above the village. Henry really enjoyed his walk, so many things to sniff and explore … and with his favourite human by his side, he was definitely a happy dog ...

This morning it’s back to work and I’m off to harvest some rhubarb from the garden … so excited. If I get sometime this afternoon, I’ll share our yummy crumble recipe with you (handed down from my lovely Mum). So good with custard or ice cream and a real family favourite …
Anyhow, hope you have a happy day … sending good vibes from our little part of the world, take care … :)

Ps: We still have some available dates in August / September, for our holiday let cottage. Great for a short break or weekend away. For more information just follow the link at the top of the page ... a warm welcome awaits.

New Raised Bed Garden For 2021 ... :)

10/6/2021

It’s been a busy day, trying to redesign our raised bed garden. My old boxes have started to rot and it’s definitely time for something new.
I’d like to use metal this time … and now with a bit more experience, would like to change the design and position of the boxes.
Basically dig it all up and start again … yikes.
It’s a lot of work, but I know it will pay dividends in the end … excited to get started.

I’ll try and get some photos tomorrow … but for now here’s a quick peek at last nights wander around Glenlivet. I love that we have so many burns and rivers around us, and I love the sound of the water … :)

Riding Our Bikes Around Boat Of Garten ... :)

7/6/2021

Wow … they grow up so fast and it was definitely time to move on to mountain bikes. We love to go exploring and being able to use the bikes, means we can go that bit further in a day. With that in mind, we headed down to Boat Of Garten and the lovely wide forest tracks to practice. They had a few wobbles and the adults definitely got in a good workout … but it will all be worth it in the end …

If you love cycling or walking, I’d highly recommend a trip to Boat Of Garten, near Aviemore. There are a few routes to choose from and the Strathspey Steam Railway is always worth a visit. A great day out for all the family … :)
